Sweetwater County Sees 38 COVID-19 Related Deaths Since September – SweetwaterNOW.com

ROCK SPRINGS — Sweetwater County continues to experience high numbers of positive COVID-19 cases, with the highest number of deaths in September since the pandemic began early last year.

Sweetwater County Health Officer Dr. Jean Stachon said she “is heartbroken over so many deaths
from a largely preventable disease.”

Wyoming Vital Statistics Services lags one to two months behind in reporting Wyoming deaths.
However, Sweetwater County Public Health and Wyoming Department of Health officials are aware
of 38 deaths from COVID-19 disease among Sweetwater County residents from September 1 through October 7.

Of those deaths, for which information is currently available, approximately 90 percent of the individuals
were not vaccinated.

said. Problems related to any vaccination are reportable and tracked. There have been no such
occurrences in Sweetwater County to date.

COVID-19 vaccines are the best prevention strategy available against COVID-19, including the variants. They are especially good at protecting against severe illness and death. Other prevention strategies include staying home when sick except to get medical attention, physical distancing, and wearing masks indoors in public settings.

All COVID-19 vaccine doses continue to be offered at no cost to those who receive them. Convenient ways to find where to get COVID-19 vaccines, including newly recommended booster doses for Pfizer, include:

  • Visiting vaccines.gov or vacunas.gov online to search and find vaccine sites
  • Text your ZIP code to 438829 (GETVAX) or 822862 (VACUNA) to find up to three nearby locations that have vaccines available.
  • Call the National COVID-19 Vaccination Assistance Hotline at 1-800-232-0233 for phone-based help.
  • Contact one of several Sweetwater County vaccination sites: Public Health, Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, Castle Rock Medical Center, K-Pack Pharmacy, Sav-on Pharmacy, Smith’s Pharmacy in Rock Springs and Green River, Walgreen’s, and Walmart.
