484 new COVID-19 cases reported in past two weeks on Cape – Cape Cod Times

The state Department of Health said in its COVID-19 report Thursday that Barnstable County on Cape Cod had 484 new coronavirus cases over the past two weeks for a total of 17,293 confirmed cases since the pandemic began.

That comes to an average daily incidence rate of 16 per 100,000 residents over the last 14 days, slightly lower than the state incidence rate of 19 for that same time period.

The daily average incidence rate in the towns of Dennis and Wellfeet was higher than the state’s average at 26.7 and 23.3 per 100,000 population.

The DPH reported Thursday there were 1,560 newly confirmed cases and 229 new probable cases of coronavirus in Massachusetts for a total of 831,662 cases since pandemic reporting began last year.

State health officials said there are 567 people with COVID-19 in Massachusetts hospitals, 207 of whom are fully vaccinated.

The number of people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is a fraction of the approximately 4,000 patients hospitalized with coronavirus in the Bay State in late April 2020.

The average age of those currently hospitalized is 72, state public health officials said.

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis has 15 patients being treated for COVID-19, including one in intensive care. Falmouth Hospital has two coronavirus patients, including one in the ICU.

State public officials Thursday reported 14 new deaths from COVID-19, none of which were in Barnstable County.

Over the past seven days there were four COVID-19 deaths on Cape Cod and seven over the last two weeks. Since the pandemic began, 513 people in Barnstable County have died of COVID-19.

State public health officials said a total of 18,427 people in Massachusetts have died of coronavirus since the pandemic began last year.

The following is the state’s count of new COVID-19 cases on Cape Cod over the most recent two-week period of Sept. 26 through Oct. 9, and the daily average incidence rate per 100,000 population for that same time period.
